Prayers to memorize for each month

The Catholic Church gives a theme to each month of the year. Below are some suggested prayers to learn each month based on the church's theme. It is amazing if you pray a new prayer every day for a month, you quickly increase the prayers you know and have memorized.

January~Month of the Holy Name of Jesus
January's "prayer" is actually a scripture to memorize:

"Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus,
Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness;and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name
that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Philippians 2:5-11

February~Stations of the Cross Prayer Short prayers like this are called "ejaculations." They are really easy to memorize and say often throughout the day.

"We adore you O Christ and we bless you,
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world."

March~March 19 Feast of St. Joseph

Prayer to St. Joseph by Pope Pius IX
"Glorious St. Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work; above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O patriarch St. Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity."

April~Divine Mercy Sunday usually falls in April
Pray the entire Divine Mercy Chaplet (it only takes 5 minutes)
Click HERE to learn how to pray

OR learn the ending prayer of the chaplet:
"Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

OR just a short, simple prayer:
 "Jesus I trust in You."

May~Month of Mary

Ave Maris Stella
Hail, bright star of ocean, God's own Mother blest,
Ever sinless Virgin, Gate of heavenly rest.
Taking that sweet Ave, Which from Gabriel came,
Peace confirm within us, Changing Eva's name.

Break the captives' fetters, Light on blindness pour,
All our ills expelling, Every bliss implore.
Show thyself a Mother; May the Word Divine,
Born for us thy Infant, Hear our prayers through thine.

Virgin all excelling,  Mildest of the mild,
Freed from guilt, preserve us, Pure and undefiled.
Keep our life all spotless, Make our way secure,
Till we find in Jesus, Joy forevermore.

Through the highest heaven, To the Almighty Three,
Father, Son and Spirit, One same glory be. Amen.

June~Month of the Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Prayer
"May the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament, be praised and adored and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time. Amen."

July~ Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus

"O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus, as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You."
-Jesus' words to St. Faustina in the Divine Mercy Chaplet

August~ Month of the Feasts of the Assumption and of Mary and Mary, Queen of Heaven

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our Life, our Sweetness, and our Hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To Thee do we send up our sighs mourning
and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
Thine Eyes of Mercy toward us,
and after this our exile show us the
Blessed Fruit of thy Womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us O Holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

September~Sept 29 Feast of St. Michael

St. Michael the Archangel Prayer
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

October~Month of the Holy Rosary
Pray the Holy Rosary every day.  CLICK HERE for how to pray it!

October~Oct 4 Feast of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

November~Month of the Holy Souls

Prayer to Release the Holy Souls in Purgatory by St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere,  those in the Universal Church, in my home and in my family.

(St. Gertrude the Great (1256-1302), is known for her single hearted love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the souls in Purgatory. This saint received visions of Christ as well as the stigmata. In one of her mystical visions, Our Lord, Himself, gave her this prayer for the holy souls in purgatory and He promised the release of 1,000 souls from purgatory each time it is said.)

December~Advent and Christmas

Mary's Prayer, The Magnificat
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My Spirit rejoices in God my Savior
For He has looked with favor on His lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
The Almighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His Name.

He has mercy on those who fear Him
In every generation.

He has shown the strength of His arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
And has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of His servant Israel
For He has remembered His promise of mercy,
The promise He made to our fathers,
To Abraham and his children for ever."
-Luke 1:46-55
